THE BRANCH’S WAY-Isaiah 4:2 (A WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE) Sunday February 18, 2024
Today, there is the cry of hunger in the land. Things are so bad with double digits inflation on food stuff. Hope of a better tomorrow have been lost. The price of a fifty kilogram bag of cement doubled within weeks. But in all these our God is a God of more than enough.
We will be taken our text from 2 Kings 6:24-30 - And it came to pass after this, that Ben-hadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. [25] And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass's head was sold for fourscore pieces of silver, and the fourth part of a cab of dove's dung for five pieces of silver. [26] And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. [27] And he said, If the Lord do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress? [28] And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to day, and we will eat my son to morrow. [29] So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son. [30] And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes; and he passed by upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.
The situation in Samaria was so terrible that the inhabitants of the city were eating there children. I can tell you that before resorting to eating their children they would have sold everything sellable in the house. However, God the possessor of heaven and earth turned the situation around within twenty four hours, as seen in 2 Kings 7:1-2,18: Then Elisha said, Hear ye the word of the Lord ; Thus saith the Lord, To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria. [2] Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof. [18] And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, Two measures of barley for a shekel, and a measure of fine flour for a shekel, shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria:
In verse one of chapter seven of the second book of Kings the man of God prophesied about abundance of food, a prominent person in the land found this to be a tall dream. But in verse eighteen, it was said that two measures of barley was sold for a shekel and a measure of fine flour for a shekel. This can only be done by God the Jehovah Jireh. The Psalmist said “When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy "(Psalms 126:1-3 NIV).
I pray that God will turn around the fortune of this country in the name of Jesus.
The topic of today's message is 'the more than enough God ' enough is defined as sufficient, in excess, abundant. God demonstrated His power in home of a poor widow in Zarephat. The woman was preparing her last meal for herself and her son before coming in contact with Elijah a servant of the Living God. The woman was given an instruction and she obeyed and a door of sufficiency was opened to her and her family (1 Kings 17: 9- 15). Many people do miss their miracles by not heeding to the Word of God.
God will provide for His own in ways that are beyond the expectations of man. God met the needs of His servant Elijah through a Raven (an unclean bird). The bird was feeding Elijah morning and evening unfailingly. No matter how terrible the situation of life is, God will always be there for us, He is the Jehovah Shammah.
The more than enough God used twenty loaves of barley and a full ears of corn to feed hundred men and had leftover (2 Kings 4: 42- 44).
Jesus fed 5000 men not counting women and children with five loaves and two fishes, that is what our God can do. He has done it before. He is doing it now, and He will still do it again and again. God provided manner and quails for the children of Israel in the wilderness. God will provide the needs of this nation, in the name of Jesus.
God Who created the universe also provides for their meat in due season, and by His open hands He satisfies the desire of every living thing (Psalm 145: 15- 16).
I know many people are worried today about the inability to meet their needs and fend for their families. God has promised not to withhold good things from those who do what is right (Psalm 84: 11). God knows us more than we know ourselves and He does not just know us, He cares for us all. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked (Proverbs 10: 3). Jesus admonished us to be anxious for nothing, if God can provide for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, He will definitely provide for us, all He requires from us is to be heavenly focused, and all these things we look forward to shall be added to us.
David said in Psalm 34:9-10 'O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. [10] The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing'.
Let us learn to serve our Lord God, and He will give us, whatever we ask for" (Psalms 37:4 ERV).
Psalm 55:22 says 'Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved'.
Whatever be your need, our God is a specialist in giving it to you. Is yours money? Our God has a bank in the deep of the sea (Matthew 17:25-27). He is also the greatest physician “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people"(Matthew 4:23 ). And Acts 10: 38 says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”. God will meet your bodily need in Jesus name.
God is able to give wisdom; 'For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding' (Proverbs 2: 6). The book of James 1: 5 says “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”. Daniel was given wisdom to solve all problems. God filled Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, with His Spirit for wisdom, for understanding, for knowledge and for all kinds of skills.
(Exodus 35:30-31 NIV)
Whatever be your need, ask God, His Word said in Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
However, for God to answer your prayers and for your needs to be met you must be genuinely born again, live righteously by running away from evil.
Prayers :
1. O Lord my Father meet my needs according to Your riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
2. Poverty will not swallow me in Jesus mighty name.
