THE BRANCH’S WAY-Isaiah 4:2 (A WEEKLY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE) Sunday February 25, 2024
Text- Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
God requires us all to be just in our dealings with others. To be just or fair could sometimes be difficult but it is what God demands. God by nature is just and right, He therefore, wants all His children to be so.
The food crisis we are facing today in Nigeria could generally be traced to injustice, hoarding, greed and corruption. Whenever there is injustice in a land the poor generally sufferers. Those who are in the habit of defrauding the less privileged in the society will surely not go unpunished by the just God.
The book of Leviticus 19:35-36 said 'Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. [36] Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the Lord your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt'(the same is repeated in Proverbs 11: 1). As children of God we must live by the commands of God, less the wrath of God will come upon us. A just weight and balance are the Lord's (Proverbs 16: 11). We all know what is right or wrong whether we buy, sell, make a product or offer service, but we sometimes do unjust things in order to make more gains. This action before God is wrong as He demands fairness in all our business transactions.
When we are fair in business, it will not only lead to blessings it will also lengthen our days on earth. The children of a just man are blessed as he walks in his integrity (Proverbs 20: 7). No wonder the Words of God said 'But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day' (Proverbs 4: 18).
The habit of cutting corners is not only seen in business, it is very prevalent in our offices. When you use official time for personal things you defraud. The question many should ask is do I work for the money I earn? As our God is completely trustworthy we His children should be also.
The way of the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just (Isaiah 26: 7). The Lord God will always smoothen the path of the uprights. For this reason, those who are just should never be afraid when faced with tough times as God will always be there to comfort and lead them.
David the King was said to have executed judgment and justice to all his people. The same is expected of those who are in leadership positions in the church of God or in the secular world. God is saying that in whatever leadership position we may find ourselves we should be fair to all.
When we use our positions to acquire unjust wealth to the detriment of the society we are committing sin. Sin will always come round to sting like an adder at long last. Jesus, our Lord said it is more important to give justice and mercy than to receive (Matthew 5: 39 - 44).
In conclusion the book of Habakkuk 2: 4b says 'but the just shall live by his faith'. Let us believe as children of the Most high God that our God is in charge of the situation of this country and He is working things out according to His plans and purposes.
Prayers:
1. O Lord my Father lift me out of the miry clay of life, in the name of Jesus.
2. O Lord help me to live by Your standards in Jesus name.
3. The present situation of life will not swallow me in the name of Jesus.
4. I shall laugh last in Jesus name.
