You live in a physical body in a physical world, but…
You’re really a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20a) and…
– a co-heir with Christ (Romans 8:16-17a)…
– with the same power at work within you that raised Him from the dead and seated him in heavenly realms (Ephesians 1:19-21, 2:6).
You can approach God with freedom and confidence (Ephesians 3:12)…
– knowing that nothing can separate you from His love and (Romans 8:38-39)…
– that His power has given you everything you need for a godly life (2 Peter 1:3).
What spiritual aspects of your identity do you need to fully embrace?
By fully receiving God’s love for you and fully accessing His power available to you, you become empowered to grow into the fullness of who He created you to be.
_Here are some practical aspects of your identity in Christ:_
*You are specially designed by God (Psalm 139:13-14)…
– with a unique blend of gifts, strengths, and passions and… (Ephesians 4:4-7)
– God had a special purpose in mind He made you to carry out… (Ephesians 2:10)
– as a fellow worker with Him to make an impact in the world (1 Corinthians 3:7-9 NASB).*
What opportunities is God showing you to walk in, in the practical aspects of your identity?
By fully embracing your unique design and fully expressing your gifts to serve as God leads, you become empowered to grow into the fullness of what He created you to do.
Living in the fullness of your true identity in Christ allows your thinking, feelings, and decisions to align with God’s will for your life.
When you look in the mirror and can genuinely see what God sees, you start believing what you’re capable of with God and taking action on what is possible with God that may not be on your own.
Fully knowing your identity in Christ means embracing the spiritual and practical aspects of who God made you to be (true identity) so you can start living out what God made you to do (God-given purpose).
And as you walk with God, you grow in clarity and confidence about who you are and what you’re called to do. And then you stop holding back in things that really matter to you–and to God.
How does purpose relate to identity?
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. ~Ephesians 2:10 NIV
In the world, you usually identify yourself by what you do. But who you are is not just about what you do, and it definitely isn’t defined by all of the ever-changing standards the world gives. Your identity in Christ isn’t based on your role at your job or in the home, by your physical appearance, money or possessions, achievements, circumstances, relationships, or peoples’ opinions.
Who you are is based on who God made you to be as an individual and isn’t defined by an earthly measure or role.
However, because you’re specially designed to carry out a specific purpose when God’s calling on your life involves what you do or a certain role, this is a way of expressing part of your identity.
Living out your identity goes beyond reflecting your faith in your inner life. It involves aligning your decisions and actions with His will and purpose for your life. And as you walk in His purpose for you, you more fully express your true identity in the world to make the unique impact you were born to make.
Expressing your purpose is important to fully expressing who you are. And knowing who you are helps you to fully express your purpose.
