With the New Year approaching, many of us may be making plans (and not just for how to stay awake until the stroke of midnight).
As we make preparations for any new season, it is good to plot a course for our quiet time with the Lord.
Carving out a set time to open the pages of God's Word is vital to our spiritual health.
To know more about our Creator, learn by His examples, and grow deeper in our faith we need to be intentional to read The Bible and spend time in prayer and reflection.
When we make a conscious effort to plan our day with this in mind we position ourselves to grow closer to God, discover more of Him, and connect to His Spirit within us.
As you make a plan for your quiet time:
-Ask God to help you plan your time. We need His guidance and direction in all areas of our lives, including our time with Him.
-Avoid comparison. While it is good to learn from others, our quiet time habits do not need to be identical to someone else to be effective and fruitful.
-Allow room for change. Adjustments may be needed as you move ahead. If something isn't working well, it is ok to regroup and try something different.
Action plan for today: Read Psalm 119:9-16 and then write out a prayer using this passage asking God to help you plan your quiet time.
"I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word." Psalm 119:16
(New Year Reading Plan Idea: Psalm 119 is a rather lengthy text. Divide the Psalm into a daily reading plan. You may choose to read it over the whole month of January or in two weeks. Make a plan that works for your quiet time.)
