According to psychologist, it takes approximately 21 days to make an action an habit and at least 3 months to stop any habit.
.
I assume you have a bad habit (like smoking, drinking, masturbating, etc) you wish to stop and you have tried everything possible but you still find yourself wanting or doing the bad habit more.
.
In this post I will explain my sure formula to stop bad habit and list general steps towards stopping it.
.
1. The best way to stop any bad habit is to be reducing the number of times you are doing it.
The truth is that you cant stop abruptly anything that has become a habit but you will only find yourself deep in it when you leave it for a while .
.
Lets take smoking as case study: You have always decided to stop smoking; and you just woke up one day and say you won't smoke again. Lets assume the first day you were successful, the second and third day you didn't too. By the fourth day you started feeling a strong urge to smoke, but lets assume you didn't give in. Am sure the fifth day the urge will overcome you and you might say "let me just smoke a stick" before you say jack you might have smoked more than 10 sticks in other to atone for the days you have missed it.

Now back to my reduction formula:
Lets assume you normally take 5 sticks every day. You will reduce it to 4 sticks daily for a week, then 3 sticks per day for the next week, you will discover the urge will start falling by itself. Then 2 sticks per day for three days and one stick per day for the next 4 days. Lastly once in a blue moon till you start forgetting to do it. The idea behind this is that it took a while before you get addicted to doing so likewise it will take some time to stop doing it too. So you can use these reduction formula to stop any habit you wish to stop.
Other steps to stop bad habits are:
1. Choose a substitute for your bad habit.
2. Cut out as many triggers as possible.
3. Join forces or compete with somebody who wish to stop too.
4. Surround yourself with people who live the way you want to live.
5. Lastly Visualize yourself succeeding.
